About my current job
I am a Chartered Occupational Psychologist, with a particular focus on in-depth leadership assessments, development and executive coaching. I use her psychological training to ensure that those in the business community are achieving their full potential, and how behavioural sciences can be used to improve corporate practice.
How did my education influence my career path?
At a subliminal level, I think I was always destined to be an occupational psychologist, after choosing a college with tutor who also happened to run one of the most successful psychometrics houses of its time. Robert McHenry (Oriel) used to run OPP in Oxford - the business psychology company which owns the rights to the Myers Briggs Test - one of the most widely used psychometrics in the market today. Working with him and also securing work experience at OPP were important steps that set me on the course towards what I am doing today.
Did you have a favourite tutor/lecturer/prof, and how did they inspire you?
Professor Peter Bryant (who trained with Piaget many years ago) had infectious enthusiasm for developmental psychology. He used to giggle as he presented the 'entertaining' things that children in his studies had done - from drawings to spelling mistakes. I was lucky enough to join his research group for a while after I did my undergraduate research on the topic of how children are able to understand quantities such as volume and density. A true inspiration who worked in the department for many years.
