About my current job
I'm now retired, but my most recent position (2000-2010) was as Director of the RAI, the main learned society for anthropology in the UK and Ireland. Previously (1993-2000), I was Executive Director of the European Association for International Education.
How did my education influence my career path?
My first degree led organically to postgraduate research in anthropology and then to a series of academic posts, followed by directorships of the European Association and RAI (see above).
Fond memories of my time at EP
Attempting to design an experiment on constancy of sound perception, in the back garden of the old Institute in South Parks Rd!
Did you have a favourite tutor/lecturer/prof, and how did they inspire you?
Prof Niko Tinbergen, whose 1st-year lectures in ethology set the shape for my later postgraduate research & first book on ethology and anthropology
With the benefit of hindsight, do you have any advice you'd give your younger self?
Loosen up, and enjoy the experience!
